Questions about the barcode generator

Short answers to what business owners ask us most, with every question on one page.

All questions
Is the barcode generator free?

Yes, completely free with no sign up, and you can use the codes in your business.

Can I use these barcodes to sell in supermarkets?

For that you need EAN-13 numbers registered to your company with GS1 in your country, such as GS1 Egypt, GS1 Saudi Arabia or GS1 Bahrain. Once you have the numbers, you can create the barcode images from them with this tool.

What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?

A linear barcode holds a number or a short code and is read by point of sale and stock scanners. A QR code holds a link or longer text in Arabic or English and is read with a phone camera, which suits menus, links and WhatsApp.

What is the check digit?

The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF codes. It is calculated from the other digits so scanners can catch reading errors. If you enter the digits without it, the tool adds it, and if you enter it, the tool checks it.

Do barcodes or QR codes expire?

No. The code holds its data inside it and does not depend on our service, so it works as long as the data is right. A QR code that holds a link works as long as the link does.

How do I print labels for several products?

Choose several codes to print and type one code per line, with the product name after a comma if you like. Set the number of copies for each code and press print to get the labels laid out on A4 paper.

Do you keep what I type?

No. The tool runs inside your browser, and nothing you type is sent to our servers or anywhere else.
