Egypt's minimum insurable wage is EGP 2,700 a month and the maximum EGP 16,700, from 1 January 2026. As of October 2026 contributions are calculated on the employee's wage within these limits, and the minimum pension of EGP 1,755 and the maximum of EGP 13,360 follow from them.
Step by step
- 1
Add up the insurable wage first
Add the pay elements listed in item 8 of Article 1 of Social Insurance and Pensions Law No. 148 of 2019, then compare the total with the limits.
- 2
Below the minimum
If the insurable wage is under EGP 2,700, contributions are calculated on EGP 2,700: EGP 297 for the employee and EGP 506.25 for the employer.
- 3
Above the maximum
If it exceeds EGP 16,700, contributions are calculated on EGP 16,700 only: EGP 1,837 for the employee and EGP 3,131.25 for the employer, however high the salary.
- 4
Their effect on pensions
Under Article 24, an old-age, disability or death pension is no less than 65% of the minimum insurable wage, or EGP 1,755, and no pension in total exceeds 80% of the maximum, or EGP 13,360.
- 5
Check them at the start of each year
The executive regulations set the limits and the National Organization for Social Insurance announces their values, so update your payroll system before January's payroll.
A common mistake is registering an insurable wage below the actual wage to cut costs. The employee pays for it in their pension, because the pension is calculated on the average insured wage under Article 22.
