Egypt's pension age is 60 for employees working for others as of October 2026, and it rises gradually to 65 from 1 July 2040. It is set by item 10 of Article 1 of Social Insurance and Pensions Law No. 148 of 2019, and the increase is made by decree of the Prime Minister under Article 41.
Step by step
- 1
Find your category
The pension age is 60 for employees working for others, including private sector staff, and for Egyptians working abroad, and 65 for employers and those treated like them and for irregular workers.
- 2
Follow the gradual rise
Article 41 provides for unifying the pension age gradually at 65 from 1 July 2040, by decree of the Prime Minister.
- 3
Check the contribution period
An old-age pension requires at least 180 months of actual contributions on reaching the age under Article 21, otherwise a one-time lump-sum compensation is due under Article 26.
- 4
Know how age affects the pension
At the pension age the Table 5 factor is 45, so each year of contribution adds one 45th of the settlement wage.
- 5
Hard and hazardous work
The pension age may be lowered for workers in hard or hazardous jobs specified by decree of the Prime Minister, under Article 21.
A common mistake is making decisions based on circulating news about the pension age rising in a particular year. As of October 2026 the age is 60, and the rise comes by decree of the Prime Minister up to 65 in July 2040.
