Under Article 89 of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025, a contract states its start date, both parties' details, the work, the wage and how it is paid. It also lists the agreed benefits and is written in Arabic in four copies, for the employer, the worker, the competent social insurance office and the competent administrative authority, up from three copies under Article 32 of the old law.
Step by step
- 1
Start date and term
The start date, and the term if it is a fixed-term contract, because a contract that states no term is treated as open-ended under Article 88.
- 2
Employer details
The employer's name and the address of the workplace.
- 3
Worker details
Name, qualification, profession or trade, social insurance number, address and proof of identity.
- 4
Work and pay
The nature and type of work, the agreed wage, how and when it is paid, and all agreed cash and in-kind benefits.
- 5
Foreign workers
If the worker does not know Arabic, the contract may be written in Arabic and his language, and the Arabic text prevails if they differ.
- 6
Receipt for documents
The employer gives the worker a receipt for any papers and certificates he deposits, and returns them on request when employment ends, under Article 175.
Leaving the relationship without a written contract does not protect the company. Under Article 89 either party may prove the employment, its length and its rights by any means of evidence, and an unwritten contract is open-ended under Article 88.
