Create a free Google Business Profile, complete the verification Google asks for, and fill in your business details accurately. Local results are ranked mainly on relevance to what the customer searched for, distance and how prominent the business is, and there is no way to pay for a better ranking.
Step by step
- 1
Create the profile
From the Google Business Profile site, add your business name as it is in the real world, your main category, your address or service area, your phone number and your website.
- 2
Complete verification
Google decides the verification method based on your business type and region, and it may be a phone or text code, an email, a video recording or a live video call. The review can take several days.
- 3
Choose the category carefully
One main category that describes what your business is, and as few extra categories as possible, not a list of everything you sell.
- 4
If you travel to your customers
Hide your address and set the areas you serve, and do not use a virtual office or a mailbox as your business address.
- 5
Add photos and hours, and keep them current
Real photos of the place and products, accurate opening hours that include holidays, and an immediate update whenever anything changes.
- 6
Reply to reviews
Reply to every review respectfully, since replying to customers is one of the tips Google gives for improving local visibility.
Adding keywords or a slogan to your business name breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended. Write the name exactly as it appears on your sign and official documents.
