You need a Google Play Console account with a one-time US$25 fee and an Apple Developer Program membership at US$99 a year. Each store then reviews your app before publishing it. These fees are as of October 2026, and Apple shows its fee in local currency where available.
Step by step
- 1
Choose the account type
A personal account or an organization account. An organization account with Google and Apple requires a D-U-N-S number to verify the entity, which is free to obtain from Dun & Bradstreet in most countries.
- 2
Prepare the store listing
The name, icon, description and screenshots, a working privacy policy link and a support contact, since both stores ask for them.
- 3
Google Play requirements
Complete the Data safety form, and provide test login details if the app requires sign-in. Personal accounts created after November 13, 2023 need a closed test with at least 12 testers for 14 continuous days before publishing to everyone.
- 4
App Store requirements
Upload the build to App Store Connect, fill in the review information with a demo account if needed, and follow Apple's App Review Guidelines.
- 5
Review and rejection
If the app is rejected you receive notes citing the guideline involved, then you fix it and resubmit. Common issues at Apple include crashes, placeholder content and incomplete information.
- 6
Plan for updates
Every update is reviewed in both stores too, so leave enough time before any launch date or campaign.
Registering the store accounts in the developer's or contractor's name instead of your company's leaves the app in their hands. Create both accounts in your company's name from the start.
