How is end-of-service gratuity calculated in Qatar?

The short answer

Under Article 54 of Qatar Labor Law No. 14 of 2004, the gratuity is no less than three weeks of basic wage for each year of service. It is due once a worker completes at least one year of service, part years count pro rata, and the contract may grant more.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Confirm eligibility

At least one year of service, with unpaid leave days excluded from the period counted.

  2. 2

    The daily wage

    Monthly basic wage ÷ 30.

  3. 3

    Gratuity days

21 days for each year as a minimum, or the higher number if the contract or company regulations provide for it.

  4. 4

    Calculate the gratuity

Number of years × gratuity days × the daily wage.

  5. 5

    Qatari nationals

Qataris are covered by social insurance, while non-Qataris are entitled to the gratuity.

A common mistake

The contract or company regulations may grant more than the minimum, so review both before calculating.
