What should a company do when a work injury happens in Egypt?

The short answer

The company gives first aid, sends the worker for treatment, notifies social insurance at once and tells the police within 48 hours if he cannot work. These duties come from Articles 50, 61 and 63 of Social Insurance and Pensions Law No. 148 of 2019. The employer pays the wage for the day of the injury, and the worker then receives compensation equal to his full wage on which contributions are paid.

Step by step

  1. 1

    First aid and transport

Give first aid even if the injury does not stop the worker from working, under Article 63, and take the injured worker to the place of treatment, under Article 50.

  2. 2

    Notify social insurance

Notify the National Organization for Social Insurance as soon as the injury happens on the form it provides, and give the injured worker or whoever goes with him a copy when he is taken for treatment, under Article 63.

  3. 3

    Police report

Report to the police any accident that keeps a worker off work within 48 hours of his absence, with his name and address, the circumstances, the injured body part and where he was treated, under Article 61.

  4. 4

    Pay during the injury

The company pays the wage for the day of the injury, and then compensation equal to the full wage on which contributions are paid is paid on normal pay dates until he returns to work, permanent disability is established or he dies, under Article 49.

  5. 5

What counts as a work injury

Occupational diseases in Table 1 attached to the law, accidents during or because of work, and accidents on the way to or from work without stopping or leaving the normal route, under Article 1.

  6. 6

    Notify the administrative authority

Article 260 of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025 requires notice to the competent administrative authority of every serious accident within 24 hours, and half-yearly statistics from establishments with 30 or more workers.

A common mistake

Treating the injured worker at the company's expense without notifying the Organization and the police is a mistake, because Articles 61 and 63 require notice. An injured worker may not claim compensation from the employer under another law unless the injury resulted from the employer's fault, under Article 66.
