What should a payslip include?

The short answer

A payslip shows four parts: employee and period details, earnings line by line, deductions line by line, and net pay with how it was paid. A clear payslip cuts employee queries and protects both sides in any dispute.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Basic details

The employee's name, staff number, job and department, the month and payment date, and the insurance number if there is one.

  2. 2

    Earnings

Basic pay and each allowance by name, then variable pay such as incentives, commissions and overtime, with total earnings.

  3. 3

    Deductions

In Egypt the employee insurance share, salary tax and the Martyrs Fund contribution, then advances, absences and penalties, each on its own line.

  4. 4

    Net pay

Earnings minus deductions, with the payment method and date.

  5. 5

    Helpful extras

Leave balance and year-to-date totals, and you can add the employer insurance share so the employee sees their full cost.

A common mistake

A common mistake is a two-line payslip showing only gross and net. When employees cannot see the reason for each deduction, any small difference turns into a complaint.
