Short answers from the REFORMHRM team, with every HR question on one page.
All HR questionsHow do I calculate net salary from gross in Egypt?
Deduct the employee's 11% social insurance share of the insurable wage, then the salary tax calculated annually after insurance and the EGP 20,000 personal exemption under the Law 7 of 2024 brackets, then the 0.05% Martyrs Fund contribution on gross pay.
How much social insurance is deducted from my salary?
11% of the insurable wage, split into 9% for old age, disability and death, 1% for the lump-sum benefit scheme and 1% for sickness insurance. It is calculated on the insurable wage within EGP 2,700 to 16,700, so a salary above the maximum pays on EGP 16,700 only.
How much does the employer pay in social insurance?
18.75% of the insurable wage, made up of 12% for old age, disability and death, 1% for the lump-sum benefit scheme, 1.5% for work injury, 3.25% for sickness insurance and 1% for unemployment insurance. The monthly cost of an employee is the gross salary plus this share.
What is the difference between the insurable wage and the gross salary?
The insurable wage is the wage that contributions are calculated on. It usually covers what the employee earns for the work, within EGP 2,700 to 16,700 a month. Above the maximum, contributions are calculated on EGP 16,700, and below the minimum on EGP 2,700.
What are the minimum and maximum insurable wages in 2026?
EGP 2,700 and EGP 16,700 a month from 1 January 2026. The minimum pension is EGP 1,755 and the maximum EGP 13,360.
Will social insurance rates go up?
Yes. Under Article 19, the old age, disability and death contribution rises by 1% every seven years, split equally between the employee and the employer. The first increase is in January 2027.
What are the current salary tax brackets in Egypt?
Zero up to EGP 40,000 of annual net income, then 10% up to 55,000, 15% up to 70,000, 20% up to 200,000, 22.5% up to 400,000, 25% up to 1,200,000 and 27.5% above that. Above EGP 600,000 of net income, the lower brackets fall away gradually under the Article 8 schedule.
What is the personal exemption in salary tax?
EGP 20,000 a year for every employee under Law 7 of 2024. It is deducted from annual income after the employee's insurance share, and the brackets then apply to the rest.
Do life insurance premiums reduce salary tax?
Yes. Under Article 13 of the Income Tax Law, premiums for life and private health insurance for the employee, a spouse or minor children, together with contributions to a private insurance fund, are deducted from the tax base up to EGP 10,000 a year or 15% of net income, whichever is lower. The policy must be with a company licensed by the Financial Regulatory Authority. Enter the annual premiums in the net salary or tax calculator to see the effect.
What is the Martyrs Fund contribution?
0.05% of gross salary, or EGP 5 for every EGP 10,000, deducted every month. You can switch it off in the calculator if your company does not apply it.
How do I find the gross salary for a target net salary?
Choose net to gross in the net salary calculator and enter the net amount you want. The calculator finds the gross that produces it after insurance and tax, with the cost to the employer, which helps when negotiating a job offer or designing a salary scale.
How is a pension calculated under Social Insurance Law 148 of 2019?
The settlement wage multiplied by contribution years and divided by the age factor in Table 5, capped at 80% of the settlement wage, with a floor of 65% of the minimum insurable wage for old age, disability and death.
What are the conditions for an old-age or early pension?
An old-age pension needs at least 180 months of actual contributions on reaching pension age, otherwise a one-time lump sum is paid. An early pension needs at least 300 months of actual contributions, and the calculated pension must be at least 50% of the settlement wage and not below the minimum pension.
When does the pension age rise in Egypt?
The pension age is 60 today. It rises gradually after July 2032 until it reaches 65 in 2040.
